It was certainly a year to remember. I know I won’t forget it! Here at Stephen Arnold Music, we worked hard to help our clients be heard and stand out in 2016. And we helped them connect to their viewers and customers with custom music branding for news, sports and entertainment networks, global brands, video games and more.

Here’s what we were up to last year:
CNN/HLN – “Primetime Justice with Ashleigh Banfield”
I always love working with CNN. And I was thrilled that SAM was selected to work on the new nightly news program “Primetime Justice with Ashleigh Banfield” on HLN. Monday through Thursday, the veteran journalist takes on the most pressing legal and social issues, trials and hot topics of the day. At SAM, we helped expose her expertise with a new musical theme; a strong sonic brand driven by distinctive strings, horns and assertive percussion that captures the spirit of “Primetime Justice.”
Gearbox Software – “Battleborn” Video Game
This was one of my favorite projects of the year. The elite developer Gearbox Software wanted an attention-grabbing, catchy and distinctive theme for the montage of character introductions in its “Battleborn” video game for Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC. And we gave it to them! Check out the memorable Player Select Theme, a guitar-driven composition that features catchy, aggressive hooks reflecting Battleborn’s rallying cry: “Calling All Badasses.” We had a blast using live drums, driving guitars, gang vocals, and a shredding prog-synth solo. I think it really leads players into the game…and I can still listen to it over and over again!
CNN/HLN – “How It Really Happened”
I like what HLN is doing with fresh, original content, with new offerings like “How It Really Happened” as the first of several new series. The show, hosted by actor Hill Harper, delves deeply into notorious crimes, mysteries, trials and celebrity tragedies. Our custom music package includes the show open and many other film score-style themes that capture the eerie atmospheres of the show. We also composed the show’s bumpers, commercial break intros/outros and additional cinematic elements, using consistent sonic branding.
UPS – International Communications Campaign
I wanted to see what WE could do for brown. Ha! UPS proved that it connects every corner of the Earth with their latest campaign, a set of compelling videos that demonstrates their global capabilities to audiences everywhere. I feel that our musical score was critical to the success of the project, providing a memorable musical theme that could also be adapted for Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. I love this track. It’s a really addictive beat produced
in step with the script, voiceover and visuals to drive powerful storytelling and an emotional connection with viewers worldwide. Brown, indeed!
CNN/HLN – Bleacher Report
Again, working with CNN is a blast! “Bleacher Report” is a cornerstone of sports coverage for CNN and its sister network HLN. I was really gratified that SAM was invited to create a fresh theme for this elite sports brand. We came up with a driving, indie rock-style sound, with live guitars, bass, drums – even handclaps – to give a fun and upbeat feel to one of media’s most recognizable sports brands.
CW33 – “Express Yourself” User Generated Content Campaign
This was an especially fun campaign, because we get to watch the station all the time! CW33-KDAF TV in Dallas/Ft. Worth really wanted want their station to be a part of their viewer’s daily conversation. So they created the engaging “Express Yourself” campaign, encouraging viewers to interact with the station by uploading and sharing fresh UGC (User Generated Content) consistent with the campaign’s motivational theme. We had a real chance to do a cool pop tune here. It’s catchy and original – a perfect up-tempo mashup of new school funk-pop and old-school Motown doo wop. We’re STILL dancing…

Highlights of 2014 include:
Stephen Arnold Music was tasked with creating a sonic brand and comprehensive music package that would be shared between the five CCTV International Channels – Arabic, English, French, Russian and Spanish — all while taking into account the individual channel regions, cultures, and target audiences. It proved to be a planet-spanning project as epically challenging as it was rewarding.
Golf Channel Ryder Cup
Golf is a sport of deep tradition, but the broadcasting of this historic pastime is experiencing big changes: Golf Channel broadcast the Friday matches of the 2014 Ryder Cup for its first-time ever live coverage of the event. The music that set the stage for this classic competition is evolving as well, driven by unforgettable new themes from Stephen Arnold Music.
Stephen Arnold Music created an iconic theme to brand “Golf Films” – original content, documentary films and programming created by Golf Channel. The piece features live orchestration and players from the Dallas and Fort Worth symphony orchestras.
ESPN Deportes – UEFA Euro
World excitement about championship soccer has never been more extreme, with tournaments across the globe drawing its largest viewing audiences yet. The reverence the sport inspires was perfectly encapsulated in a rivetingly different upfront for ESPN Deportes that was scored by The Vault, the Anti-Library from Stephen Arnold Music
A new addition to the CNN nightly lineup, “CNN Tonight,” launched with a complete music package from Stephen Arnold Music. The Leaders in Sonic Branding provided a strong, contemporary package for the program, which airs weeknights on CNN.
CNN International – World Sport
CNN International’s long-running flagship sports show, World Sport, needed an updated music theme to go with a new graphic look. Building on the sonic brand and package originally created by Stephen Arnold Music, a new show theme was created to complement the new, sleeker graphic look and capture the excitement and passion of sports fans the world over.

World Fishing Network
World Fishing Network launched its first-ever brand redesign since going live in 2005, with a powerful new sound to match its viewers’ passion. Their theme is now a driving, raw rock performance created by Stephen Arnold Music, which used amped guitars, bass, and live drums to bolster World Fishing Network’s new look and feel. The new theme, which strives for authenticity, rawness, and strong rock and blues roots, is part of a brand update that underscores the network’s mission: delivering diverse and engaging content to fishing enthusiasts.
The Launch of Sam2 Media Artists
Sam2 Media Artists, a joint venture between Stephen Arnold Music and Gordon Smith Creative, launched. Sam2 Media Artists is a dynamic new one-stop shop that offers clients both media strategy and marketing services, providing broadcasters of all sizes with an innovative approach to marketing strategies, media planning and sonic branding.
Sam2 “Journey” Documentary Special
An amazing piece of American history will come to light for the first time when Black History Month arrives in February, 2015. That’s when local TV stations nationwide will have the opportunity to present “The Journey – 450 Years of the African-American Experience”, a fascinating new documentary special. Produced by Mummycat Productions and Sam2, a division of Stephen Arnold Music, “Journey” reveals the never-before-told true story about the role that free blacks played in the founding of St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest city in the United States. Interviews with experts and vivid imagery combine in “Journey” to explain how the first African Americans reached the new world long before the founding of Jamestown – not as slaves but as free men.

Sonic Branding Leaders Update Their Long-Running Show Package with Dubstep, Dance, and Indie Rock-Style Arrangements
Updating one of the top daily entertainment shows on TV can be a daunting challenge. HLN’s long-running program “Showbiz Tonight” stayed with the sonic branding of Stephen Arnold Music for their makeover, turning once again to the original music creators that helped launch the show in 2005.
The composers at Stephen Arnold Music wrote five new arrangements to match up with a fresh graphics package and set for “Showbiz Tonight,” which is hosted by A.J. Hammer, from the network’s New York City studios. Built around the memorable four-note hook that Stephen Arnold Music first wrote for the show seven years ago, the bold new package incorporates a range of dubstep, dance, electronic and indie rock themes.
“A common thread of long-running daily entertainment shows is an unforgettable melodic theme,” Stephen Arnold, President of Stephen Arnold Music says. “A strong musical signature is essential to pop-culture based programs, and the lasting power of our sonic brand for ‘Showbiz Tonight’ reflects that. The new music package builds on the original hook, evolving it within modern styles to keep it catchy and current.”
Depending on the genre, Stephen Arnold Music employed everything from filtered loops and programmed beats, to live guitars and drums to drive the energetic new themes. In addition to the primary arrangements, Stephen Arnold Music also provided HLN with a large supply of long beds, short logo stingers, and other transitional elements. Culled from moments in the longer themes, the shorter elements sync up with the “Showbiz Tonight” sonic stamp, providing the show’s producers with a flexible toolkit to match their fast-moving graphics.
The “Showbiz Tonight” update was the latest in a long string of collaborations between Stephen Arnold Music and CNN/HLN. Other recent projects that the Dallas-based music company has created for the networks includes “Jane Velez-Mitchell,” “Dr. Drew,” and “Morning Express with Robin Meade.”
For Stephen Arnold Music, recharging the sound of “Showbiz Tonight” was a welcome opportunity to go deeper with the music they make.

The events of 9/11 stir a wide range of vivid emotions. Last year we were honored to distill the essence of that infamous day into a musical score that accompanied CNN’s 10th Anniversary Commemoration. The rhythm is purposeful and insistent with a melody that is simultaneously somber and hopeful. The range and complexity of emotions surrounding 9/11 goes far beyond words. This was a unique opportunity for Stephen Arnold Music and we are still very proud to have taken on this important and sensitive task of translating these emotions to music. We will always remember 9/11.

Sonic Branding Experts Compose Evocative Soundtrack to Match the Global Leadership of Network’s Sports Coverage

The Show of Record
As CNN International’s flagship sports show, “World Sport” demanded a new theme that would timelessly capture the triumph, agony, anticipation and communal spirit of athletics. Equally important, the music needed to transcend regional tastes, while giving CNN International producers the flexibility to easily fit the compositions to graphic elements of varying durations.
The composers at Stephen Arnold Music relied on their deep experience in composing major network themes, for clients across the globe, to make music that was the perfect ft for “World Sport.”
“This is sports news on the world stage, and the music needed to be as big and powerful as sports itself,” says Stephen Arnold, President of Stephen Arnold Music. “For us, capturing that drama meant writing intricate arrangements with plenty of depth. To appeal to CNN International’s global audience, we knew the music had to be cinematic in scope.”
Stephen Arnold Music took an orchestral approach to the network’s needs, recording live strings, horns, and percussion and also wove in subtle electronic elements, to complete a multifaceted package of themes for “World Sport.” Moods ranged from the main theme of eventful anticipation to dramatic, driving, competitive, and high energy, to somber and serious.
